Illene
Moriarty is the owner and
editor of Autoguide
Publications, Inc.
The magazine
was founded by her father Gene
Klein over 25 years ago. The
road to Illene’s
leadership role at NY
Autoguide was not a direct
route, but the journey
equipped her with a diverse
skill set of creativity,
vision, effective customer
relations and business
savvy.
Born and
raised in Beacon, New York,
Illene’s childhood was
active and took advantage of
much of what the tri-state
area has to offer. Winters
were spent on the slopes
supervised by her dad - who
also acted as the local high
school ski team’s coach.
Lazy summers took place at the
family Jersey shore beach
cottage.
Illene showed
artistic and creative skills
at a young age; friends and
family encouraged her talents.
The vast beauty of the ocean
and the majesty of the
mountains fueled
Illene’s creativity, and
a passion for photography
developed.
While studying
photography at Sullivan
College, Illene took interest
in the culinary arts. As most
college students do, Illene
shifted gears and transferred
to the college’s Hotel
and Restaurant Management
program. Her goal was to be a
business owner and to
integrate her passion for food
into the
endeavor.
After
finishing school, Illene was
employed as a cook for the
Syler Food Corporation, which
provided her the unique
opportunity to work on a
Merchant Marine ship traveling
the
Mediterranean.

Back on shore,
Illene applied her newly
learned business acumen to a
catering business. She also
worked in various restaurants
honing her skills. She also
successfully managed a
well-known bakery.
Ever-enchanted
by all art forms, in 2001
Illene took a shine to metal
smithing. She takes classes at
the 92nd street Y in
Manhattan. Illene informally
sells her designs by request.
You may think
that Illene is an unlikely CEO
of an auto guide – maybe
she is, but her creative view
of the world has been an asset
to Autoguide Publications,
Inc.; the company’s
consistent growth and
longevity is testament to her
unique business
perspective.
Illene splits her time in New
York City’s Upper West
Side & the Hudson Valley
with her two Corgi’s,
Sophie and
Rocco.
